The Castle Santa Florentina

The current look of the castle is fruit of numerous modifications. Its origins possibly go back to the roman era, when it was a land produce centre. The second period was in the eleventh century. The building turned into a fortified house to resist the incursions and razzias of the time. Centuries later, in the sixteenth, the strong house was enlarged again with more defence elements. The main reform though started in the end of the nineteenth century when Ramon Montaner wanted to adapt the building to the fashion at that time. To take this project to effect, there was the collaboration of Lluís Domènech i Montaner who was a member of the family. The architect gave a medieval air to the castle, thanks to the introduction of pieces from the Tallat monastery. It is possible to visit all the year round. L´aspect actuel du château est le fruit de nombreuses modifications. Ses origines datent probablement de l´époque romaine, quand la ville était un centre de production agricole. On peut situer la deuxième étape ver le XIème siècle. Ce bâtiment est devenu une ferme fortifiée pour faire face aux incursions et les raids de l´époque. Quelques siècles plus tard, au XVIème siècle, la maison fortifiée fut renforcée de plusieurs éléments supplémentaires de défense. Cependant, la modification la plus importante n´a commencé que vers la fin du XIXème siècle, quand Ramon Montaner a voulu adapter le bâtiment aux goûts de l´époque. Pour mener à bout cette tâche il a collaboré avec Lluís Domènech i Montaner, membre de sa famille. L´architecte a donné un air médiéval au château grâce à l´introduction de plusieurs pièces du monastère du Tallat. On peut visiter toute l'année. En été, des concerts de musique classique
